Hillsborough County Warehouse
Client: Hillsborough County
Location: 2310 North Falkenburg Road
Site: A parcel located adjacent to a County Jail in Eastern Hillsborough County.
Program Challenge: To create an office and warehouse/storage facility for use by constitutional officers, the BOCC, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Tax Collector, Supervisor of Elections, Water Department, Road and Street, and State Attorney, while staying within a $16 million budget. Required spaces included a mix of office and warehousing with both traditional and high bay automated retrieval systems, secure storage, and shops.
Solution: Rowe Architects designed a 313,278 square foot service center that met the needs of eight users. To maximize efficiency of space, the facility was designed so that common areas such as restrooms, break rooms and storage could be utilized by multiple agencies. Multiple construction systems were used to keep costs low. These systems included pre-engineered metal buildings, steel frame with load bearing concrete tilt slab walls, and load bearing unit masonry with bar joist framing.
The Sheriff’s Office District 2 Headquarters, BOCC, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Tax Collector, Supervisor of Elections, Water Department, Road and Street, and State Attorney, occupy the largest single portion of the warehouse. The section includes storage for covert vehicles and training equipment, as well storage for more environmentally sensitive items from the evidence section.
